Smile

This book was reviewed by a 9 year-old.

Description from Goodreads:

Raina Telgemeier’s #1 New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award-winning graphic memoir based on her childhood!

Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader. But one night after Girl Scouts she trips and falls, severely injuring her two front teeth. What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there’s still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly.

Review:

Smile by Raina Telgemeier has 224 pages and was published by Graphix in 2010.

One night Raina trips after her Girl Scout meeting and she knocks out one of her teeth and the other tooth becomes lodged in her upper gums. Her parents took her to the dentist and she has to have surgery. One of her friends called her a vampire.

My Favorite Part:

Raina tries out for the basketball team.ย  Even though she does not make the team, she still tries her best and I like that.

My Least Favorite Part:

Raina’s teacher catches her passing notes and her whole class finds out about her crush on Sean. I don’t like that because she was embarrassed and the teacher looked like he was glad.

I would recommend this book to people at my school and to libraries.ย  It is a very good book and people might want to check it out.

Notable Quote from the author:

“I did keep detailed journals from about fifth grade on, and every so often as I was growing up, I would re-read them and reflect on the previous years of my life.”
