The Shadow Tribe (Books 1-3)

Description from Goodreads:

Aruna is a land of magic. It’s capitol, the city of Terron, is home to some very unique, magical children. Homeless, destitute, and searching for answers to explain their condition, their search first leads them to each other. Second, it puts them on a collision course with the sorcerer, Abigor. With few allies in a world that has forgotten them, the Shadow Tribe begins to make itself known.

What I liked:

The premise of this book is unique and creative.  I love the idea of a “shadow tribe” of magical children.

The covers!  They are beautiful and would definitely stand out to me.

Well edited.  There aren’t many spelling or grammatical errors.

The story itself is interesting.  I would pick up the next installment to see where this story is headed.

What I didn’t like:

The Boy With the Scar consists mostly of Joby, the protagonist, talking with his dog.  This portion of the story did not really hold my interest.

The dialogue, at times, seemed forced.  The villain, Abigor,  is irritatingly reminiscent of Disney’s Jafar and his personality annoyed me.  His character is a bit one dimensional and I would have liked to see a little more depth.  Perhaps the author will flesh this out a bit more in the sequels.

This story has great potential.  I am interested to see where it goes.
