Wicked Like a Wildfire

Description from Goodreads:

All the women in Iris and Malina’s family have the unique magical ability or “gleam” to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love.

But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popovic has 405 pages and was published by Katherine Tegan Books in 2017.

Wicked Like a Wildfire is painfully slow and boring. I made it to page 168 before I decided that I was done. It is not often that I DNF a book (probably less than 5 times in my life). However, I just could not make myself pick it up again.

What I did like:

1. the title.
2. the premise.
3. the cover.

What I did not like:

Everything else.

I really hate the idea of not finishing a book so this may be one that I come back to later. Once I have forgotten the bitter, painful memories of what reading this was like…

Cannot in good conscience recommend this book to anyone. Although I do hope that it is much more enjoyable for anyone else that reads this.

I really do not like to give up on a book and I hate giving negative reviews.  I feel like even if it is something I do not like, the author put their heart and soul into it and I usually try to remain encouraging.

So what is with the snarky review above you ask?  Well, frankly I’m cranky after reading that and I am spreading the misery.

I like to encourage readers to try something even if I don’t like it because we all have different tastes.  If you happen to read this and you enjoy it, let me know.  I would love to hear your opinion.
