The Siren

Description from Goodreads:

From Kiera Cass, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series, comes a captivating stand-alone fantasy romance.

Kahlen is a Siren, bound to serve the Ocean by luring humans to watery graves with her voice, which is deadly to any human who hears it. Akinli is human—a kind, handsome boy who’s everything Kahlen ever dreamed of. Falling in love puts them both in danger . . . but Kahlen can’t bear to stay away. Will she risk everything to follow her heart?

The Siren was previously self-published; this brand-new edition has been completely rewritten and redesigned.

The Siren by Kiera Cass has 336 pages and was published by HarperTeen in 2016.  It had previously been self-published.

I found this book to be extremely entertaining.  I really enjoy Cass’s writing style.  Once again, she has managed to pull the reader into the world which she has created.

Kahlen was fated to die with her family.  However, she is saved and “forced” into a life of serving the Ocean as a siren.  She loves the ocean deeply but still she hungers for a normal life.

Then she meets Akinli and nothing will ever be the same.  She quickly realizes that she has feelings for him but given the circumstances it’s not possible that they could ever be together in any meaningful way.  Or is it?

The Siren is a sweet, romantic book without being overly mushy.  The romance is innocent and this book would be appropriate for younger readers.

I would recommend this book to mermaid fans and fans of romance.
