Good morning monster readers! I’m sorry to say I am a day late on this post but I hope you all will forgive me. This month’s choice is for the best book set in winter. This is an easy one for me.

Title: The Bear and the Nightingale

Author: Katherine Arden

Publisher: Del Rey Books

Published: 2017

Pages: 346

My original review:

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden has 346 pages and was published in 2017 by Del Rey Books.

What an amazing debut novel!  The Bear and the Nightingale is based on Russian folklore.  This book is cleverly written with beautiful descriptions and world-building.  Arden skillfully draws the reader into a dark fairy tale that leaves the reader feeling hopeful and wanting more.  A pretty mean feat for a story that is essentially dark.  This book completely drew me into a world that I have absolutely no knowledge of.  I love that.  I felt entranced learning about the Russian  history and heritage detailed in this novel.

I would recommend this to fans of A Crown of Wishes (Roshani Chokshi).

Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Katie at Never Not Reading  and Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads. It is designed to ignite bookish discussions among readers, and was inspired by the 1961 Neil Sedaka song, Calendar Girl.

So,what do you think of this choice?

I tried really hard to get into the Bear & The Nightingale, and it had all the elements I ought to have loved… but it wasn’t my cup of tea. That being said, you can’t argue with its wintery vibe! All the snowy feels! And I think I’m in the minority of people that didn’t like it 😂
